What is rationality?
Rationality is the art of thinking in ways that result in accurate beliefs and good decisions. The rationalist movement, rationality community, rationalsphere or rationalistsphere is an informal collection of communities that are interested in rationality and rationality-adjacent ideas. Some of the common topics that are discussed in the community are decision theory, Bayesianism, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, and effective altruism. The community is typically associated with the Less Wrong diaspora and other similar groups and such as the Slate Star Codex/Astral Codex Ten community.
Who are we?
This is the local Austin rationalist meetup group. We are a diverse group of people who get together to practice rationality and meet other like minded rationalist people. Austin is quickly growing to be one of the largest rationalist hubs in the country. Do you see yourself as a rationalist or are you interested in learning more about rationalism? Come join us! The first time the group met was on April 9th, 2011. This meeting was held in Waco, but it spurred the group to start regular Austin meetups.
